The Educate America Act is a competitive grant which provides funds for professional development and technology. Project S.O.A.R. and the Urban Institute will be the focus of our 1998-99 professional development activities.

Project S.O.A.R.

(Schools Organized to Achieve Results)

A committee has been established consisting of members from business, industry, higher education and other segments of our community to work with district personnel to establish 10 measurable goals. These goals will be district-wide but will apply to all buildings.

This project is designed for all the individual schools in the School District, City of Erie to develop ten measurable goals of school accountability. These goals are designed for instructional improvement.

Schools Organized to Achieve Results is a reform effort focused on year to year, school by school improvement. It is a useful and critical addition to nationally normed testing.

Urban Institute:

The Urban Institute has been established to improve teaching and learning in the School District, City of Erie. It is designed to further develop the intellectual capital and practical experience of beginning staff working in the district.

The Institute will assist new teachers to become continuous learners who adapt to the changing conditions of the diverse classroom. This Institute will also benefit students by enabling them to realize the goal of higher performance towards a brighter future through enhanced teacher preparation.
