The summer component of the Delinquency Prevention Program is a six week session that operates from 10:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Thursdays. The summer sessions are much like that of the After-School Program and consist of pro-social skill development, role-playing art therapy, sports activities, small group interactions, lunch and a weekly field trip. The main objectives of the summer program are to provide those students entering Kindergarten with the socialization and structure that school will provide for them, as well as offering an alternative to being "on the streets" during the summer months, for those students who participate in the program during the school year. The summer program includes field trips to places such as: an Erie SeaWolves baseball game, the Experience Erie Children's Museum, the Erie Zoo, Evan's Skateland, Cinemas, Waldameer Amusement Park, Woodcock Dam, the Llama farm, Presque Isle State Park and other local parks and recreational areas. Intensive group activities are also held for those students who need continuous structure from the end of the school year until the beginning of the next school year. These students participate in tutoring programs, field trips and one-on-one counseling. A summer reading program also supports those students who are in jeopardy of failing the school year due to under-developed reading skills. Additionally, twenty students were placed in the Eastminster Summer Day Camp for two weeks through an "in-kind" donation from a local Presbyterian church. The camp provides personal attention to children in grades K-6 who reside in the Franklin Terrace Housing Project. The summer program serves over 130 students from three schools and is held at two locations (Edison Elementary and Burton Elementary).
