fterchoolrogram

The After-School Program operates from September to April during the school year. Each program site facilitates its' own program. Currently, the after-school program is running at Edison Elementary, Burton Elementary and McKinley Elementary. Students attend the after-school program from 2:30 until 4:30, Monday through Thursday. All students are transported home by a school bus at the end of the day. The program curriculum includes role-playing of social skills, group discussions and activities that stress positive skill building to help students become more successful dealing with situations that may be difficult to handle. Prosocial Skills are reinforced through an innovative role-playing presentation created by Dr. Arnold Goldstein. Material is taken from Skillstreaming the Elementary School Child, written by Dr. Goldstein. The Skillstreaming curriculum teaches children to work out their problems in a positive way, without using aggressive behaviors. Skills are divided into such categories as: classroom survival skills, friendship making skill, skills dealing with feelings and others. The curriculum also includes academic tutoring , art therapy, and sports activities. Students have also had the opportunity to go on field trips in the community to places such as the Experience Erie Children's Museum, The Erie County Library, Evan's Skateland, a local Pumpkin Farm, and local fast food restaurants for tours.
